So one of the most anticipated games for the Wii has come out! and in what a way. I saved all the gift cards that I got on my birthday to buy this game. I had put a copy on hold and picked it up! Bea is playing it right now and having tons of fun :) Best Buy actually got 50 Wii consoles today, but in less than 30 minutes they sold out. Other stores around the area got 100 of them and also sold out. We also had put money down on the second guitar for the Wii, and picked it up this weekend. Bea already Hello Kittyed up. I guess the Wii is going to have an amazing weekend when it comes to sales number. If you feel lucky enough to be able to beat me :) come and challenge me… here are all of our current friend codes. Leave yours in the comments.

My wife secretly wanted to be a rockstar and when we saw guitar heroes this weekend she wanted to tell me to pick it up, but she held back her dreams of fronting the band until I actually brought it up. One of my buddies said he was going to get it and I expressed interest… then I mentioned it to my wife and she was like go pick it up. I did a 180 on Panther (yes my car has a name) and headed to the nearest Best Buy :)

If you have never seen Guitar Hero, picture a toy guitar that interfaces with your console almost like DDR. The notes come down a bar that resembles a guitar and you are supposed to match the color and time your strum. It is really that simple, the rest of the stuff you pick up as you play the tutorials. It is very rewarding to string together combos to your favorite songs.

I am not sure what kind of song list past versions had, but this one is impressive and I am not even 1% into the game. It seems to have a lot of extras for good replay value. I think what makes it a must have is the online play. You can battle against people online as well as link your Wii to your GuitarHero.com account and show off your stats.

If you need a reason to get a Wii, guitar hero is just one more :) the wii remote fits nicely into the wireless guitar and you are rocking in no time. The first couple of times I played it seem like the initial load was taking forever, but a full power off and power on of the wii took care of that problem. If you are going to get a wii for the holiday season I highly recommend you pick up this title!

As if you needed more reasons to buy a Wii than what I have already mentioned here on my blog.

The Wii’s latest software update gives us more flexibility for typing. If you did not know, they Wii can be used as a mini e-mail machine to contact other Wii’s and any e-mail address. If your parents are still resisting getting a computer, this could be a great way to get them to e-mail and prevent them from spamming you. Before you would have to type the letters one by one using the Wii remote, but now you can just plug in a USB Keyboard and voila!

The Wii also crushed the PS3 in Japan by surpassing it on sales, and it does not stop there. In a historic event, both the Wii and the DS have more female players than make, 51% and 53%. The Wii continues to dominate.

It has been officially confirmed that Smash Brother’s for the Wii will have head to head online gameplay.

The third installment on the Monster Hunter Series is going to be a Wii exclusive, Capcom dropped development of the game for the PS3 because of development cost. The game is going to include 4 player online action!

Nintendo comes through for their users again and will be providing up to 4 free jackets for the Wii remotes in response to people getting a little too excited with the gameplay. This after they even upgraded their straps for the remotes. If only that other company would do the same for their 3 lighted toasters.

Nintendo Wii is the most registered item on amazon for wedding registries.

Soon downloadable DS demos will be available via Wii.

Wii Fit goes on sale in Japan on Dec 1st.

The more I read video game magazines, the more I want to cancel all my subscriptions. My letter to the editor went unnoticed, or maybe just purposely ignored. I am not a great writer and not even close to a professional journalist, but a I don’t make my life that way. However I have finally figured out why game magazines are trashing the Wii so much.

I was reading Game Informer when I encountered their review of Mario Strikers Charged. I did not look for it, I was just browsing the latest magazine and thought, hey I already played this game, lets see what they say. The more I read, the more I felt like this was not a fair review. Mario Strikers is such a fun game that both my wife and one of my friend’s wife wanted to kill us after a straight week of non stop playing. The online game play was smooth and easy to access, the action was fast paced and the controls right on point. The music, the graphics and replay had Nintendo written all over in a good way. So why did Game Informer hate it so much? simply because they hate the Wii.

The president of Nintendo of America said in E3 2007 that “This is an exciting time, the Wii is putting video games right along with music and movies as a form of entertainment for everyone.” While this is a bold statement, he does have something to back him up. The Wii is being embraced by gamers and non gamers alike. Woman and later age demographics are jumping at the Wii. Heck, my Mom, someone who raised a video game addict never wanted to pick up a controller before now wants a Wii.

So why do game magazines hate this? simple, they are not going to be very relevant anymore. Their readership will decrease as time goes on because of who they write for. My letter to the editor talked about how they had no right to say that games should be made for gamers only. Now I understand that pretty soon their lack of writing skills and depth will make them dinosaurs faster than news papers on the printed media world.

Game magazine writers try to be sarcastic and witty. Because of that I have always excused poor writing and lack of depth on not just their reviews but their articles. I have even at times felt that it would be cool to be part of their staff reviewing video games, but now I know that I did not miss much.

Martha Stewart and Jessica Alba are both Wii fans and have been open about talking about the awesome console. Maxim magazine and Rolling Stone have been writing good video game articles for a while now. Why buy a magazine that is at least not up front about what they are pushing by calling themselves a multi platform magazine. At least Nintendo Power is upfront about pushing just the stuff from one company. While the game magazines are trying to retain an audience of hardcore gamers that are more interested in reading things online than in printed media, other magazines are going to pick up the influx of new readers trying to find out about what the Wii has to offer.

I might be completely wrong, but before the end of the year the Wii is going to dominate the gaming market like the DS is already doing to the hand held. It is not all about pretty graphics, its about great game play and Nintendo became the innovator and took the step toward fun instead of being stuck on pixel pushing land which its already dominated by the PC. I cannot wait for Unreal Tournament 2k7 to come out and make Halo 3 as irrelevant as video game magazines are becoming at least for me.

It was very hard to find a Wii, but once the quest was over it was very much worth it. While it seems simple enough to get one, supply has been running low and demand has gone way up after a successful holiday season.

How did I get mine? I picked it up at GameStop. After several attempts at just going to the stores and not finding one even after I was told they were getting shipments, I decided to always call ahead. Funny thing is the that store that said they had one sold out on the 15 minutes it took me to drive there. Thankfully another store close by had one left and I made my purchase.

The wii is Amazon’s best selling video game console right now, and if I did not want the hassle that is where I would get it. If you do want to do some of the leg work you can use Yahoo find a wii site. Probably the best and cheapest way is to just call around your local retailers and wait for their next shipment.

When you pick up the console be sure to get some Wii points so you can enjoy some Virtual Console games. You only need those if you do not want to enter your CC information into the Wii. Must haves for everyone should be Super Mario Brothers 3 and Super Mario 64. Also pick up Wii Play which comes bundle with an extra controller. And do not forget the Nunchuk for both controllers, they are a must have for most games.

Do not, and I repeat, Do not get the classic controller. I bought two of them and have not used them once. Most virtual console games will accept GameCube controllers and if you do not have a GameCube you can always go back and experience the great catalog of games for that system on the Wii. Yes it is backwards compatible. The best choice for a controller is a wavebird for the GameCube, the first truly great wireless controller.

One that that I have not picked up but want to is the Nyko Wii Charge Station so you don’t have to recharge or buy batteries for your controllers. Batteries do last a long time. The cook thing about the Nyko system is that it replaces the OEM cover with one that is rubberized and makes it easier to grip the controller. Right now we are using rubber gloves for that purpose, those even come glow in the dark which is kind of cool.

The must have games for the Wii for me are the following.

buy at Amazon.com
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Not a game for just fans of the series, as a launch title this game shows us how the Wii is capable not just of beautiful graphics but extraordinary innovative game play. It is not a short game and the story is full of exiting twists and turns.

buy at Amazon.com
Rayman Raving Rabbids

The second title of this new series will be out soon, but I still think this is the best party game I have ever played. The music stages and the memory one alone make this game a must have.

buy at Amazon.com
Mario Strikers Charged

Second game to have online play is sure to make some of the critics shut up about the wii online experience.

So stop waiting to pick one up and join the world on experiencing the greatest console ever.
