Blade (****)

I watched Blade again for the 2o0-th or so time. This being not only one of the first movies I watched and owened on DVD but also a movie that combines my favorite genres. Martial Arts, Action and Vampires. Wesley Snipes is a seasoned martial artist in several arts like Karate, Kung Fu and Capoeira. I have also heard, but don’t quote me on this that he is a 3rd degree black belt on Tae Kwon Do, but it could be just a rumor originated by the fact that his wife is Korean. I think the fact that Snipes is a martial artist makes the movie that much more fluid and believable. The stunts seem more natural than in other action films.

The movie never feels like it came out of a comic book, and even though there are a couple of sequences that could be concidered somewhat animated, it never steers clear from the main action. The one liner blade uses are very appropriate and never corny. The character does not say much and kicks a lot of butt. What more can you ask from an action movie.

Troy (****)

Starring Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Diane Kruger, Peter O’Toole, Sean Bean, Saffron Burrows, and Julie Christie… Throughout time, men have waged war. Some for power, some for glory, some for honor — and some for love. (Warner Bros.)

I have to say that I went to this movie with mid to low expectations, which I have always found to be the best way to approach a movie. The action did not wait for no stinking story… it just started. I have to say that Brad Pitt ranks as a better actor in my book after this film. His performance was not just believable it was flawless. Orlando Bloom’s character was a little weak… I really wanted it to kick a little more ass, but oh well. The movie was long but only by the clock because while in there the time flew. It did not feel like a long movie at all. If anything I wanted it to keep on going.

Do not want to go into it to much and spoil it, but if you have seen it go ahead and comment. So stay clear of the comments until you actually watch the movie.

The Ring (***)

Starring Naomi Watts, Martin Henderson, David Dorfman, Brian Cox, Jane Alexander, Lindsay Frost, Amber Tamblyn, and Rachael Bella In this remake of one of Japan’s biggest box office hits Ringu, Naomi Watts plays a journalist who discovers a mysterious videotape that is connected to several deaths.

I would have to say that the movie is creepy and not for the gullible, what really ruined for me was that I watched Scary Movie 3 before I watched the ring and the plots sort of mix. But I will talk about that on my review of Scary Movie 3.

The plot is solid and the scary parts were done at expected moments, but still strong. I think the film special effects were right on key and not overdone in any way. I think the movie is better watched at home in a rainy day than in a theater. Put this movie on your rental list for sure.
I did not get the chance to watch Ringu yet, but I think I will rent the movie one of this days… even though the movies share the same plot, I think the original might have some more to offer.

Scary Movie 3 (**)

Starring Anna Faris, Charlie Sheen, Regina Hall, Denise Richards, Jeremy Piven, Queen Latifah, Eddie Griffin, Anthony Anderson, and Simon Rex. The Scary Movie gang is back for the third installment in this spoof series. It is not a complete waste of time, but it brings me to a little rant. I think spoof movies should provide a list of movies that it will ruin. The movie has spoofs of not only scary movies but also other movies of the moment. It does totally ruin the Ring and Signs in my opinion.

The movie has some excellent moments and it is done very well like the previous two. Even though the Scream series references are pretty much gone from this one, it still has not lost its edge. There is no gore at all which I think is positive. I say go rented only after you have watched The Ring and Signs, both excellent movies.

Torque (*)

Starring Ice Cube, Martin Henderson, Monet Mazur, Matt Schulze, Jaime Pressly, Jay Hernandez, Will Yun Lee, and Justina Machado. I am not sure what this movie is supposed to portray because I am still scratching my head about it. I mean, the Reapers (Ice Cube’s) gang was a simple motorcycle club (because he would not deal drugs) yet they were armed to their teeth. The main character disappeared for 6 months, but you quite don’t understand why that period of time… he just needed a vacation in Asia I guess. The other supporting characters are just fluff.

Beyond that, the movie has motorcycles doing things that they are not meant to do. Most people do not know that there are several different types of motorcycles that have very specific purposes, and well, sportbikes or more commonly know crotch rockets well, cannot handle dessert riding… but this movie makes it seem easy. This movie as a biker really makes me long for biker boyz which is pretty scary. Stay away from this movie at all cost.
