Madagascar (****)

Why is it getting the full Logtar endorsement? Well because it is hilarious and it has booty shaking. Watching a bunch of furry animals jam to “I like to move it, move it” is one of the coolest and funniest things I have seen in a movie in quite some time. This scene really fit the music, kind of like the opening scene in Blade with its bass pumping in the background or the opening scene in any StarWars movie with the credits rolling.

The movie has a great story, the main characters are hilarious and on queue with the action. David Schwimmer is hilarious as the hypochondriac giraffe, Ben Stiller makes an excellent Alex the Lion and the confused Zebra by Chris Rock is pure laughter. This movie really competes with Shreck in the comedy animation movie department, I would even venture saying that in some levels it tops it. The hippo voiced by Jada Pinkett Smith was funny but not innovative, I found it at times lacking but it did not disrupt the flow of the movie.

If you have kids, take them to the movies; you will not be disappointed. If you don’t have kids, then I will forgive you if you wait to just rent it.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (*)

If you are a fan of the books or the animated series stop reading now. First, don’t panic. That is probably the only thing that I would say is cool about the movie. Why because I did not know anything about the book or history of it when I walked into the multiplex and chose this torture over the Interpreter. It was a big mistake to see this movie, I want my money and my time back. Do we have normality yet?

The story is interesting and could have been better portrayed by a cartoon, which I hear it already was. They should have left it there. I can basically ruin the movie for you in less than 5 minutes so here we go. Your house is going to be destroyed, but who cares, your planet is about to be destroyed. Your best friend happens to be an alien and he is going to save your tail, but all he does is keep getting you into deeper messes than you though possible. Ah the love part too, how could I forget, a girl you fall in love with ends up leaving with a dude that would have better represented by Fabio. The tale continues when you happened to be picked up by your dream girl and Fabio. It gets better; they are looking for the answer to existence, the mice in our planet are also looking to find it and they somehow are the ultimate villains. Did I mention there are dolphins too? If by this point you are not confused or irritated, then go ahead and watch the movie you are obviously a fan.

I say stay away from it if you can, I am sure a cable channel will eventually play it and you can get a chuckle or two from it. If you are a fan, I do not think less of you, just don’t try to explain it to me. The idea slapping was kind of humorous.

Anger Management (***.5)

I felt that Adam Sandler had been losing it lately. Mr. Deeds was a movie that I did not enjoy as much as I did his earlier work. I have always liked him and thought it was funny but never have really commited myself as a fan.

Anger management is a move in the right direction for Sandler. This movie really made me laugh. I am not saying that it is a classic but I think it is way better than anything else he has done since little Nicky in the comedy genre. Jack Nicholson really makes this movie come alive. I really think he should do a lot more comedy. Robert Deniro has done excellent with his comedies and I think Jack should really explore this real.

The movie is paced well, and even thought is it not a constant laughtrack the funny moments do carry on from scene to scene. This is a definate rental, if you love Adam then a must own.
