John,

It takes a lot to recognize when you have a problem and get it checked out... before it gets worse and you regret it. Be thankful that you are in the process before something potentially worse happens. Everything will be okay, bro.

Now, on a humerous note... it's probably due to all the NPR you listen to. Perhaps you can use this as a scapegoat as to why you support Obama. "It wasn't my fault that I couldn't hear the BS he was spouting." Hahahahaha!

I love you man!

Jeesh man, for those of us blessed with regular access to our senses the loss (even partial) of one of them is scary as hell.

There are lots of options available for most conditions, and diagnosis is the first step. My heart problems last year taught me 2 hard and fast rules for dealing with ones health. First positive attitude and outlook really does help, so have faith in yourself and your doctors. And second, be completely honest with yourself and your doctors so that they can make the most accurate diagnosis possible.

Good luck man, wishing you the best!

My whole family knows my dad has hearing loss from working in the factory at General Motors for over 30 years. To this day still, he will not go in for a hearing test. The man is soo stuborn to the point that I'm very certian that he learned to read lips rather than get a hearing aid. We know this for he will get very angry if you do not face him when talking. Is it a macho thing? or ignorance that scares him soo to not want to see a doctor about it. Perhaps its just a sign of getting old that he just dose not want to admit.

It'll be OK man. Most doctors would rather be safe than sued so they err on the side of caution.

Besides, nothing powers fear more than lack of information. Believe me, I know! Knowledge is power. Once you know what the scoop is, you can deal with it.

I'm sorry you're going through this, and I hope that the audiologist is able to address all you concerns. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted, please.

That is absolutely gross that a grasshopper-type bug started digging in your ear. I'm going to wear earplugs at night for sure now to make sure no critters get in there. Yuck.

And it's ok to be scared! If you have hearing loss, there are many ways to deal with it. I'm hoping everything goes smoothly for you and will be waiting for news.
