I tend to have a lot of Alter Bridge, AC/DC, Sublime and Linkin Park on my MP3 player when I work out. Every once in a while I'll throw in some rap/hip-hop just to mix it up a bit.

Music helps. For my money hard rock and metal is the best to work out to, something with some thud to it. It takes exercise from something I hate to something I just don't enjoy.

I always wear my iPod when walking/jogging/running/biking/etc. In fact I got a watertight containment and earphones for the pool (my favorite exercise). Unfortunately it became too much of a hassle to use both in and out of the pool.

i hear ya. on health and being in the 30's. as i am almost 3 years in now. ugh.

i know my weight (i am curvy as polite women say) has never been a social hindrance for me at all... i know that partly by the extremely hot men that i have had the pleasure of dating (seriously, a runner, a workout nut, and now an extreme fighter)... but at the same time, not being able to just fit in the latest fashions or whatever. its myself that makes it a social thing moreso than anyone else. because it brings me down...

i have been up and down on weight... i agree with May... what has worked best is slow changes... small changes... that eventually lead to big ones... i did weight watchers on my own (the points!) and casually did some work on the Gazelle (yay tony little! ha ha) and lost mucho weight in a few months.

but then i fell off the wagon... i come from an italian family... i suspect our eating habits are very similar to your family's. Mom loves to feed us... we love to eat. :)

you'll find something to work for you. you are awesome. Lucky Bea!

It took me forever just to learn discipline, and it's two parts, the eating right (yuck) and the exercise (yuck x2).

Best of luck, I totally feel your pain!

The way I am adding more exercise into my daily routine started out just making myself to a bunch of simple stretches that seemed lame, but I knew I needed to do them. Once I'd been doing that week or so, I naturally wanted to do more because my body was responding so well to the stretching. Then I started adding simple exercises like crunches and pushups. Now I've added weighted exercises and squats.

The best part of the whole process is that it feels completely natural since I'm gradually doing more and gradually WANTING to do more. It's a lot better than when I tried to loose weight and get in shape by jogging. It worked for a couple of weeks, but I hated it so I stopped.

Anyway, hope that's some what helpful.

I'm starting to not mind the running so much as I progress through the program...although I am still only on week 2. Do you play basketball at all?

You just have to find what works for you. I was one who couldn't stand running. I then realized that it's a heck of a good way to get into shape. I'm slow, and I don't go far, but I get it done, and I feel good afterward.

Take it slow. with the warmer weather the exersize part should come easier. Just a mile walk every night will help. Take a look at this book.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/1594868549/?tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_rxmxu3idi_e

It might help you make some substitions which would help. Also there are a lot of recipie books out there on lower fat or lower carb meal. Start substituting a few of these a week. The thing that make me fail always is setting a date and then totally switching my lifestyle.
