Bea and I don’t really care much for Valentine’s day. We never celebrated it growing up, and even though we are both Hallmark fans, we do not buy into made up holidays. Even though we are not going to go to the extreme of actually protesting, we do not make a big deal about it.
I had an excellent time turning 30 this year. I could sit here and tell you how special she made that day for me and just how much she does for me in so many levels, but I would not finish any time soon. Thanks to her support I am back in Martial Arts and loving every second of it. However that, and the material things I have now thanks to my birthday pale in comparison to something that many might not even find a big deal, but make her the most special person in my life.
For my birthday I did not want cake, and she was cool enough to make me tasty meatloaf. I am not sure how many times in the past I have told people including my own mother that I wanted to have meatloaf as the cake for my birthday, and well nobody listened. This was something that mattered a lot to me, because she did not make me feel eccentric, she just knows that I am not much of a fan of sugary snacks and made me a tasty meatloaf made with sourdough crumbs that was delicious.
I have listened to many people in my life, but lately I have realize that I can count on my hands how many people actually listen to me. I am not talking about in conversation, but really listen to see if I am joking around or dead serious about something. She has gotten to know me better than anyone has in the past, and really listens to everything I say.
Our relationship is not perfect, expecting that is a little crazy, but it is the best relationship that I have ever had in my life. We laugh and cry together, we give each other hope and encourage our faith. We constantly try to see how we can make each other’s day brighter and today even though I might not get her overpriced flowers, I wanted to make sure I said, thanks for listening amor and Happy Valentines Day.

I’m not getting mushy so your readers won’t be embarrassed, but it is easy to love you… And I’m lucky to have you in my life.

The problem with Valentine’s Day is expectations. God forbid you send tulips to her office instead of roses. And I’ll be damned if she is hoping to get a diamond ring and a proposal. Nothing is good enough for a high-maintenance woman. All Valentine’s Day does is set you up for failure. I have never liked this day. I never will.

Have you considered meatbread?

Dude! Meatbread is the single greatest ‘new’ thing I think I’ve seen all of 2007.

I don’t protest V Day like some do. I don’t have anyone that I’m romantically involved with right now but that said I still see it as a day to celebrate the people in my life I love. I am blessed to have a great family and great friends and on V Day, I think about them. I was going to send some friends an e-card but after the warnings that a virus was sending out copies of itself that looked like an e-card, I figured not so much.
That said, I’m happy V Day is over simply because the over the top, melodramatic jewelry store ads for the day will stop. Sorry, but I don’t think the only way you show someone you love them is expensive jewelry….LOL
