On a tangent... I just listened to episode 348 of This American Life. Malcolm Gladwell give a pretty humorous account of his first years as a newspaper reporter in Washington.

I can't tell how much of it is exaggeration, but it's pretty entertaining and not at all perverse nor baffling.

It starts at about the 46 minute mark in the episode. I think you would enjoy it.

I am not saying that this book will change your life the way the Bible is supposed to. It is not a road map nor a new religion, however for me it was catalytic to change some of my pre conceptions about some things. I do not want to ruin the book for anyone, that is why I rather you read it because I loved it so much.

I bought a copy of Dianetics at a thrift store in Boise, Idaho last April. I have clue how people even become Scientologists after, presumably, reading that book.

Everytime I pick it up I fall asleep before I get four pages in.

I think the premise of the book is about positive thinking and opening yourself to a world of possibilities. While it sounds like a message transmitted to us for years, it is interesting to discover new forms of thought.

I haven't read the book yet, but I wouldn't associate it with any specific philosophy or dogma. In fact, I am reading Norman Vincent Peale's "The Power of Positive Thinking" and I can see the message is basically the same. While Dr. Pearce has Christian beliefs as the base of what he teaches, it can be applied by anyone to their lives.

Are you sure? Because your post reads a bit like the Steven Fishman deposition. Just a bit, though. Don't get me wrong.
