Nuke, I kind of have to agree with XO. Americans are the only group of people that I have met that resist learning another language like the plague... not sure how the Quebeq people are... but it seems to be a new world thing, or maybe just North America.

In Europe many people know 3 or more languages and still keep their own culture. The only people that I have heard are super bigoted when it comes to language are the Catalan people, but that is second hand account, I have not been there yet.

I don't think is hard, I think it just takes work and most people think that all work is hard.

There is an old joke...

If you speak 3 or more languages, you are multilingual.

If speak 2 languages, you are bilingual.

If you only speak 1 language, you're American.

Solo hablo Espaniol un poco, pero hablo Spanglish muy bien.

I think that's what I meant to say.

Anyway, loss of native language over generations of acclimation/assimilation is hard to fight. I feel there are more important parts of ones culture to hold onto dearly. I do however own a Danish-English-Danish dictionary in case I ever decide to learn my ancestors language.

I also second what Spyder said!
