I'm very excited about this movie. As far as plot an action are concerned I agree that some episodes of TOS weren't the best (though others are classics! :)) but many years back, it was a real inovation. And one of the major reason why people got hooked pretty bad on Star Trek at the start was that they loved the characters and related to them (my father said he and his brother cried like a baby when Spock "died"). And also because of the relationships between the characters. There was a very deep bond between Kirk/Spock/McCoy (NOT slash guys! :P) that evolved slowly and it left its mark on a lot of people (me included). I know a lot of people told me they eventually disconnected because they thought that's what the other ST series lacked... a kind of emotional resonance... Now don't flame me, I'm not saying it's better, it's just a matter of opinion and taste, dependind on what you like the most about ST.

As for the actors, I guess they sound good for the parts (I saw a picture on google of Quinto as Spock and OMG he's perfect -physically speaking-) But I agree with some of you. It's kinda scary to have new faces play such...legends! It won't be the same. But if they play their part well, I guess we could get used to it and eventually forget that it's different actors. I think it's going to take some time to get used to the idea though, at least in my case.

I'd love to see a new Trek movie...But as I said 'NEW'. I just can't see remaking the old with new actors. Better yet, a new TNG with the same cast (as already said).

I'm grateful for TOS, after all, without it, we wouldn't have gotten TNG and the other "modern" Treks, but I didn't think it was all that spectacular. Certainly nothing to make new movies about... AND WITH A NEW CAST, TOO?!

New Trek movies should be modern... done with TNG crew? Move on to DS9 and Voyager or how about Captain Riker and his crew on the Titan?

I am cautiously optimistic.

My biggest concern is the casting. The actors are so synonymous with the roles when it comes to classic Star Trek. I am having a hard time seeing anyone but Shatner as Kirk and anyone but Nimoy as Spock.

I hope they can do it....

Either way, I'll be there opening day.
