It's also good to recognize signs that you are stressed. For example, I lock the keys in my car or leave the headlights on. Other people probably do similar things.

I would be a hypocrite if I said I haven't suffered from this state of mind if you will. But then again, when in that situation, I automatically assumed that I'm simply 'stressed' but I've never really analyzed it from the perspective of you entry today. Nice observation.

Escpecialísimo énfasis en el último punto: humor. PAra vivir bien se necesita humor. Al menos, por aquí uno se ríe de todo.

I've always found one of the best stress relievers is... stop what you're doing... slowly breathe in deeply from your stomach all the way up and into your nose. Then part your lips slightly... and very slowly... breathe out through your lips. Do this several times... whenever you need to. Soon it will come naturally.... and as Martha Stewart says, 'It's a good thing.'

Sometimes it also helps to rotate your shoulders slowly and rotate your head (from the neck) slowly. These two especially help when the stress is physical. Honest. Try it. ;-)

Oh Logtar, thanks for writing this entry, because I really dig your last tip: humor. I need to find a mental health therapy book that helps people with humor... I'm not funny, and this would help immensely. ((hugs)) I realize that often, when I am working with what I would call my clients (anyone who comes to me for advice... but then I go into professional mode), that humor would be an excellent ice breaker!! Often, I come too strong and lay out too much info at once, and although it works for some, it can be extremely overwhelming for laid back people that just want a little bit o' therapy at a time, and if I could relate a concept to them in humor, oooo... it would really help a lot of people.

My big stress reducer is playing a game like Civilization III on the computer - some kind of simulation game that gets you totally engrossed in world-building, that sort of thing. Without a lot of combat because that's stressful. But I find it's the most relaxing thing in the world to play that for a couple of hours. Now, my wife might disagree with its usefulness.... :)

Another thing that de-stresses me is to work on a play - direct, or act, or whatever. Losing yourself in that world and being creative pushes the other problems back to their rightful proportions.
