I am not really sure that Hitchhiker has sociopoltical undertones. It is just incredibly funny and insanely nonsensical. I always felt the "trilogy" was so reassuring to me by pointing out the lightness and relativity of the universe. It is really a very unique and hard to describe piece of work - which I am sure the movie cannot live up to. Nevertheless ... :-)

I could review it... I might, I thought the movie became too cartoonish and focused on the comedy which I think was half-efforted. I have not read the book but I have to imagine that it has a lot of sociopolitical undertones that were just missed during the movie. I would not see it again... I rather watch spaceballs, that is kind of what it reminded me of.

I believe you are right. All this outside- and facade-focus fits nicely with the fact that relationships (at least here in Germany) do not hold any longer. It is my impression that as soon as the tiniest thing is not comfortable or chic or painless enough relationships break up. Quite a bad thing!
Nevertheless: I would like to hear what you thought about the Hitchhiker-film. Are you a fan of Douglas Adams´? (I am !!!). Not sure whether I want to go and watch the movie or not; reviews seem to be mixed on it.
