“Be beautiful if you can, Wise if you want to… But be respected-that is essential.”
-Anna Gould

“If one doesn’t respect oneself one can have neither love nor respect for others.”
-Ayn Rand

“If you have some respect for people as they are, you can be more effective in helping them to become better than they are.”
-John W. Gardner

The people that know me IRL(In Real Life) will tell you know much I value respect. I think if you asked me what trait I value most in a person, second to faith would have to be respect. The word respect to me means so many things it is hard to explain, it also has so many levels it cannot be contained in one post. I live my life with respect in mind, respect for myself, respect for others, respect for situations and even objects.

Lets take motorcycles; I love riding them but respect them quite a bit. They are machines that can potentially end my life if I do not exercise respect. A lot of people do not see them as something you should respect, but rather use and sometimes abuse. I do not say that those people are wrong for doing it, just that I chose not to.

Now on with today‚Äôs quotes. It was hard to just pick one, so I posted 3 the first one is very loaded… and I want you guys to tell me what you think… I lean toward the self-esteem angle on it, but lets see what the quote says to you. The second quote is probably my favorite, it sums up the saying you have to love yourself before you love others, or better yet if you don’t love and respect yourself who will?

The last quote is very interesting, because it strikes a chord on me that resound quite loud. I have seen many people talk about charity and give their opinions on situations while not respecting the person or the situations. I think this quote speaks to that. If you really want to help someone you should start by respecting him or her first.

  1. When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you.

  2. I like all the quotes above…#2 probably my favorite; because it says it all. I agree. About quote #1; ‘Be beautiful if you can’… Well, sure, I say be beautiful if you can too! But that’s not what’s realy important if they’re speaking of outer beauty. BUT, inner beauty is essential; I believe everyone is ABLE to be beautiful. ‘Wise if you want to’… Hmmmm. I say be wise if you CAN! ‘But be respected-that is essential’… I believe one will be respected when they give respect to others and of course respect themselves. I guess that statement is deepr than I thought. Such food for thought, Logtar! =)
