“All human wisdom is summed up in two words – wait and hope.”
–Alexander Dumas

“We should not let our fears hold us back from pursuing our hopes.”
–John Fitzgerald Kennedy

“Hope is the feeling you have that the feeling you have isn’t permanent.”
–Jean Kerr

“Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible and achieves the impossible.”

I never imagined that I would find this many excellent quotes on hope. Not only are they good quotes, but also they really talk about how I feel about hope. The first one by A. Dumas (I know I chuckled too) is somewhat of what we all say. Things will get better kind of feel. It is important in life to have that person that always tells you that things will get better. That is what family is to me, that group of people that you can look to and will always be there letting you know that things will get better.

JFK then goes onto say that our fears hold us back from pursuing our hopes. I think that from all the truths in our way of thinking or even psychology this concept is very important. Those things we fear only limit us. For a lot of people it is the fear of failing, for others is just simply the fear of change. I think fear is a emotion that can rule our life if we do not keep it in check.

Jean Kerr defines hope in a very simple but concrete kind of way. If anyone ever asked me to define hope, this would be the explanation I would choose. And last but not least Mr. Anonymous who by the ways has said so many things in his life I would love to be him. The last quote just sums it all up for me, with hope everything is possible. We must never lose hope.

Now the fun part, how do you feel about hope? Is hope important in your life? Is there such a thing as false hope? What are your reactions to any or all of the quotes?

  1. How do I feel about hope? And is it important in my life? YES!! I think it’s crucial. If we give up hope, we give up trying to make things better. Hope keeps us going at times when it could be so easy to just quit. Is there such a thing as false hope? Yes, I believe if that’s how you define someone who sees things that aren’t really there. OR, hoping for something to happen that deep down inside one knows is probably not really the best thing for them and they’re really fooling themselves. But I try to live in reality and with a positive attitude. I’m sure hope plays an important role in my endeavors….but it must. Another excellent post, Logtar!!

  2. Nice post Logtar :) Actually to me hope is essential. It’s hope that makes me go on, and take risks. I believe hope is the rope that ties us to the future. As for false hope, I think it doesn’t exist, it’s more like “high hopes” or “optimism” that exist. If used too much, may mislead or hurt a person. I loved the quotes, specially the last two.

  3. Great post. Personally, I’m pretty ill at the moment, and I nor our GP don’t know when I’ll be able to go back to school and return to The Normal Life. Guess I’ll have to “wait and hope”!

  4. Hope’s what keeps us going when we can’t see the end of the tunnel. Even though it’s physically intanglible, like faith, it’s a rock we can cling to when we need it. Great post Logtar.
