Week 22

A big hello to all the Mamboers out their in Blogland!

Music is a part of most everyone’s life. We hear it when we’re at the mall, at restaurants and sometimes even in our place of work. That’s the focus of this week’s mambo. How music affects us and shapes our lives.

Yup, this mambo is going deep!

So to start out this week, we’ll do a little “I say ____, You think ____.” (Music style, of course)

Drums::Dance to the beat of the Drum
Station::The Fish, was thinking about it this morning, is the Christian radio station in Chicago.
Concert::Have not been to a concert in quite some time
MP3::The way to go with music
CD::Listening to an inspirational CD
Burn::I need to burn a couple of CD’s
Seven::Heaven
Who::The Who
London::Underground
Vinyl::Leather

Ok, so are you ready to really Mambo? Ok then, let’s get dancing.

1. What is your definition of music? (What it means to you, etc)
Music is to me the stronges expression of emotion. It uplifts me, keeps me going.

2. What do you say about music? (Do you talk about bands and songs or do you gossip about the artists…that sort of thing)
Not much of a gossiper, actually really do not like it. I do not get into talking about bands and such. Would like to be part of one some day.

3. Here’s a quote by Arnold Bennett about music, “Its language is a language which the soul alone understands, but which the soul can never translate.” Tell us what your thoughts on that quote.
I think that it is a good quote, but I do think that our soul can translate music. Music makes us feel, and that makes me believe that our sould understands it and translates it.

So from all of us Mamboer’s here at BDI to you….Mambo like you really mean it!

Many Hugs and Loads of Love

Hero (****)

Jet Li is my favorite action actor. He is not only a superior martial artist but has amazing precense on screen. I love Jackie Chan as an actor, but he does not have the power that Jet Li brings to the screen. Jet Li was introduced to the mass American market on Leathal Weapon 4. Even though the character was not a main role like in what I had seen Jet Li before, I think it was a fair introduction.

If you have not seen the preview for the movie hero, you have to do so now. Other options here if the link did not work. Also go check out the cast. There are similarities between this movie and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. But lets establish something. Besides Zhang Ziyi being a character in both movies (Supporting charcater in this movie), the two movies should not be compared. Please do not get hung up on the wirework and the “flying” of the characters. This is an element that is used a lot in Eastern films, its part of the action. Think of how car in Hollywood explode into a ball of fire as if the trunk was loaded with C4, we all see that part of action. Wirework is at that same level on Eastern films.

The time… two thousand years ago.
The place… the violent dawn of the Qin dynasty
The story… the soon-to-be First Emperor of China is on the brink of conquering a war-
torn land. Three opponents are determined to assassinate him and one loyal
subject stands in their way.

I do not want to talk about the film, because I would not want to ruin what I concider expectional story telling. The camera work of Christopher Doyle is breathtaking. And the use of color in this file is awesome in the true sense of the word. The swordfighting is above anything I have ever seen, and the fight scene betweent Jet Li and Donnie Yen will go down as one of my favorite movie moments ever.

Go see this film that opens up on theaters thanks to Tarentino this weekend. You might ask why. Well this film is actually from 2002, but it did not make it stateside until Tarentino made the effort after experiencing it in Asia during the filming of Kill Bill. Go watch it and let me know what you think.
