“A simple friend thinks the friendship over when you have an argument. A real friend knows that it’s not a friendship until after you’ve had a fight.”

I pride myself in having a lot of friends, but I have lost 3 dear friends along the way. This quote speaks to me in a very painful kind of way because I remember those relationships and see how much I miss them. I do not regret what happened, but I do think that I learned a big deal from those situations.

I would like to think that now I am equipped to have a good friendship survive an argument. I sometimes work backwards from most people giving way too much trust in the beginning of the relationship and then when it is overstepped taking it all back. I know this is a somewhat unfair approach but it’s just my personality I guess.

I have very real friends, never thought I would meet some of them online but I sure did. Some of my closest friends (IRL) in real life now, I first met online. My closest group of friends is people that I met during college; we have formed very long lasting relationships from that period of time. Then I have the friends that I have met in the jobs that I’ve had.

My newest group of friends is the people I have met at church, and they are an excellent bunch that made me feel welcome from day one. We have tons in common and they are more of a family than a group of friends, so I truly feel blessed by having them in my life.

Now my dearest group of friends is my online buddies. Most of them I have met through blogging, but they have helped me get through some tough times in my life this year. I do not know what I would have done without some late chats from them. They kept me sane.

So how many different groups of friends do you have? Have any of the friendships you have now survived a fallout? How did you overcome that fallout?

  1. I am blessed to have so many close friends. I’ve got Barry who blogs at Inn of the Last Home…we’ve been best friends for over 10 years now. I have the priviledge of being Uncle Michael to his two children, who I adore. I also have a lot of good friends I’ve met on-line–of which I count you as one. I’m also fortunate that my family is close to me and we’re friends that way as well. I enjoy spending time with immediate and extended familyl. I am blesed and it’s been shown to me over and again this past year.

  2. i have a few best friends. one is a girl. one is a guy from work. one from childhood. who i am not really sure of right now.

  3. A Beautiful posting Logtar… that I just had to share with my readers… and add my comments too…. Thank you 🙂

  4. I don’t have a lot of friends, but I do feel the friends I have are very valuable. Excellent post!!

BTW, about where to go and what to do in Chicago…..would love to hear some suggestions from you! I’m open to pretty much anything, as long as it’s not going to send me to the poorhouse…..we’ll be leaving this weekend; much appreciated!!! =)

  5. I am of the belief that it is quality not quanity when it comes to my friends. That is a nice way to say I have a good number of friends but I do not pretend to like people anymore who I do not like. I am not mean to them but I do not feel the need to include htem as friends as I used to when I was younger.

My best friend is my husband is my husband and my best girlfriend is K. I have known her 9 years now and we have seen each other through many tumultous and happy times. Essentially she is the sister I never had.

Like you I have some very close online friends, although sadly I have only met one of them. I hope to change that in the future.

Well, I had the opportunity to join a local motorcycle board and in group rides and track days I got to meet tons of people. That helped tons. I have not met anyone from blogland yet but I think within the next year or so.

  7. I basically rely on my online friends these days because I talk to them on a daily basis. I don’t have many friends around, except for a couple of girls I see once in a while. Lately I’ve become closer with my neighbour, she is a nice person. Then there’s my unconditional best friend, but she’s too far away, in Japan.

“Now my dearest group of friends is my online buddies.” — I feel lucky to make part of that group. I’m really glad we met!

What can I say… I have two friends I met from school. Both are guys and they are both selfish as hell… but I still love them dearly. They are not much of a support base for me as I am to them. Kris is my only best friend. I lost a friend of mine named Jada this year because her and I grew apart. She thought it was best to be a stepford wife and I thought it best to be independent. She is a conservative and I am an independent. I got judgmental and pissed her off. She got pissed at me because I wouldn’t accept her as a stepford wife. She made that decision and I hated that she is making herself second to her husband in every which way. That’s how I lost my only girlfriend.

I’m really down lately. Looking at a friend of 6years daily but not talking to each other. A third person in our circle of friends said something which I never said to him. Ever since I am his no.1 enemy.
Don’t know what to do now. Said hi a few times but no reaction given.
    Need advice. TQ.
