Week 3 Theater Thursday

The Day After Tomorrow has opened to rave great passable some reviews, and disaster movies are once again in vogue. This week’s Theatre Thursday questions are about those motion pictures that make us want to avoid the water, planes, tall buildings, large cruise ships, angry atomic reptiles and everything in general that makes life enjoyable…

1) What’s your favorite disaster movie of all time?
Twister by FAR.

2) Do you prefer a disaster movie with tons of special effects, carnage and general mayhem (i.e. Armageddon) or would you rather see one where the focus is on the people and the event’s effects on their lives (i.e. Deep Impact)?
I think it is more important to look at the personal impact and how humans can react to adversity.

3) Of all the disaster movies you’ve seen, which depicts the most realistic portrayal of what might happen in an actual disaster? Which was the most far-fetched?
I think twister was pretty good on that level, but I just love that movie.

Bonus) Which character would you be if you were in a disaster movie – the tough hero, the corrupt businessman who profits from it all, the old lady who runs around and screams “We’re doomed!!!”, the kid who saves the day, the young guy who buys it in the first five minutes of the disaster, or another stock character?
The kid that saves the day for sure

“When you’re curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.” — Walt Disney

Before I even start answering this meme, I want to say that I am probably one of the most curious people you will ever meet. My nick name growing up was cat and curiousity killed the cat.

Onesome: When you’re curious- Is there a specific subject you’re especially curious about? A person? A region of the world? An animal? A field of study?

Region of the world. Asia, because of all the culture and not to mention the food.
Animal, big cats are fascinating to me.
Field of study, languages, I would love to learn how to speak several languages. That is also a personal goal.

Twosome: you find lots of interesting- What do you consider your most interesting trait/ feature?

Empathy, being able to feel someone else mood is one of my interesting traits.
“The ability to imagine oneself in anther’s place and understand the other’s feelings, desires, ideas, and actions. It is a term coined in the early 20th century, equivalent to the German Einf? and modelled on “sympathy.” The term is used with special (but not exclusive) reference to aesthetic experience. “

Threesome: things to do- What’s on your list of things to do everyday, whether you want to or not? Filing, phone calls, homework, chasing around after kiddos, cooking, cleaning, etc.

Check e-mail, shower, eat at least one meal a day, phone calls, pet my kitty.

Week 21

Today is also National Rocky Road Day. As a warm up, using the letters R-O-C-K-Y-R-O-A-D reveal some interesting facts about you.

Runner I am not, I like the eliptic running machine but not a regular threadmill or running outside. Walking is more my thing.
Outspoken… didn’t use this one before. Well, what the heck… I said it again, got a problem.
Concise I am not either, I like to ramble on, and on and on.
Kelly is a name that I have always found sweet people to have. My friend T’s kid and a couple of friends, all cool people.
Yard sale hunter… not really, but I have bought a couple of things at them and would some day get better at it.
Rapper wannabe, yes you got it, I will rhyme and fail at it misserably at it.
Oatmeal lover. Best health food there is. (Avena) a drink made out of oatmeal is one of my fav.
Admirer of the women beauty. Women are beautiful creatures.
Daydreamer. I need no motivation for this, just any downtime and I win the lottery and it goes from there.

Okay, now that we’re all warmed up let’s move on to a little Mind Humping fun with “I say ___, you think ___.” In response to the following list of words enter the first words, phrase, idea or thought that comes into your ever humpin’ mind. Ready? Put on your humping caps.

Troy (****)

Starring Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Diane Kruger, Peter O’Toole, Sean Bean, Saffron Burrows, and Julie Christie… Throughout time, men have waged war. Some for power, some for glory, some for honor — and some for love. (Warner Bros.)

I have to say that I went to this movie with mid to low expectations, which I have always found to be the best way to approach a movie. The action did not wait for no stinking story… it just started. I have to say that Brad Pitt ranks as a better actor in my book after this film. His performance was not just believable it was flawless. Orlando Bloom’s character was a little weak… I really wanted it to kick a little more ass, but oh well. The movie was long but only by the clock because while in there the time flew. It did not feel like a long movie at all. If anything I wanted it to keep on going.

Do not want to go into it to much and spoil it, but if you have seen it go ahead and comment. So stay clear of the comments until you actually watch the movie.
