Nice site. Just started my own cosmetic surgery blog. I don't do a lot of Asian eyelids, but niche markets within cosmetic surgery are frequent. Every surgeon draws his/her own line here. The most interesting issue might be the reasons why people feel impelled to consider surgery.

I'm not sure you want me to chime in on this one. *sigh*

Yesterday I was definitely in a Humpin' mood so wasn't ready to undertake a serious topic like this.

Okay..where to start. I have a real problem with people who have cosmetic surgery. I believe in cosmetic surgery in order to correct the affects of disfiguration from an accident or some such thing but to have surgery in order to be more acceptable in society? I personally think there's something bad wrong about this.

The minute that people begin to conform to a certain standard set by society then what they are saying is that they aren't good enough as they are. It also reinforces the ridiculous idea that one has to look a certain way in order to be acceptable. Please! What's wrong with that picture. I'm no beauty but neither am I a troll. Sure, it would be nice to be stunning but I'm not going to go under the knife in order to conform to society's standard of beauty. My beauty comes from inside. I'm also intelligent, humorous, loyal, a hard worker and have a wonderful heart. if I can't get a job, a lover a friend based on those attributes then they aren't worth having.

I think that having cosmetic surgery in order to be "more acceptable" is like mutilating ourselves to please someone that isn't even important - everyone else. If I'm not happy with my looks then I had better take a very good look at my insides before I start altering my outsides.

And that's how I feel about that. Now, aren't you glad I went straight for the hump yesterday?

*damn I enjoy the hell out of what you draw out of me!*

Thanks darlin' --- *hugs*

Unfortunately the pressure of society is too much to bear for some people. I come from a city in Colombia where there are a lot of Japanese immigrants and I've had to see their daughters and grandaughters become "western girls" with blonde hair, big eyes and "narices respingadas". It's really sad that they feel the need to change their physical appearacne in order to believe they will be accepted. One of my best friends is Japanese and she always tell me she will die the way she is, "ningún retoque" and what's funny... she has the fold in one of her eyes and not the other one, cute! :)

I find it so ironic that people from other cultures are sometimes made to feel on the "outside" of things in the US because of a physical difference, when I (and I would hope most other people of European descent) don't even notice that physical difference that much! How boring would the world be if we all had the same eyes???

If you want to have comestic surgery, have cosmetic surgery. But the nice people are going to like you no matter what, and the bigots are not important enough to try to impress.

my two cents...
chel
p.s...thanks for the topic, I had no idea!
